Thirty years ago, on an evening when I was on my own and trying to decide on a place to have my dinner, I remembered that a new restaurant was having an opening night that evening in the Promenade Shopping Center at Hilltop.  The restaurant was named “Aldo’s Ristorante”.

Previous restaurants had been there before them but I decided that I would try it out.  What a surprise for me because it was so very nice and the food and service was so much more than I expected!  After my dinner I called my wife and told her about Aldo’s and predicted that this one would do well, and it turned out to be so true!

And it also began, on day one, our 30 years as Aldo’s patrons.  It is our “go to” favorite place and we have enjoyed sharing it with our family and visitors all through the years.  We love knowing the wonderful owners and staff and appreciate so much their welcoming of us whenever we are there.

CONGRATULATIONS Aldo’s for 30 simply wonderful years!

Susan Mosby (daughter):

Aldo’s has been intertwined with my life as well as my families since opening night.  My father and mother, always looking for good culinary experiences and excellent wine choices, went to Aldo’s on their opening night and have been regulars since.

For thirty years, Aldo’s has been their choice for Friday night dinner, club meetings, tennis lunches, graduation/anniversary/birthday/wedding celebrations, family get togethers, and even, sadly, memorial functions.  Aldo’s has been my parents constant while raising kids, a respite from a hard work week, and a celebration after a well deserved retirement.  Now, when the “kids” and grandkids visit from out of state or even out of the country, we know and look forward to a Friday night at Aldo’s.

My parents, Dr. Bob and Mary Mosby, think of Aldo’s as a second home as do we.   They are always welcomed as special guests and are proud to introduce us to all of the staff.  They have seen the staff, owners and management through their own thirty years of raising children and growing Aldo’s into a culinary staple of Virginia Beach.

With their 60th wedding anniversary pending (June 7th), I have no doubt that Aldo’s will be part of the celebration.  My husband and I are currently driving through Belize, Mexico, and the Southern United States to get home (a secret) in time for the anniversary, and we only know one thing for sure – if we are there on a Friday, then we will be at Aldos with the Mosby clan!  We look forward to seeing you as always.

Best regards, Susan Mosby McDonnell
